We Support Coordinating Person-Centered Supports for HIV+ Ex-Offenders Video Production

HOMECOMING: DIGNITY-BASED RE-ENTRY SUPPORTS FOR HIV-POSITIVE EX-PRISONERS

Homecoming is a multimedia project (videos and companion resources) aimed at audiences within the HIV,

housing, criminal justice, and support-services systems. It fosters effective multi-sector collaborations that

assist returning HIV+ ex-prisoners to build strong networks, maintain health and wellbeing, and participate

in their communities in meaningful ways. Such strong collaborations will also help achieve the primary goal

of the federal Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative, a 90% reduction in HIV transmissions in the U.S. by 2030.

There are an estimated 1.1 million people living with HIV (PLWH) in the U.S., and up to 20% are incarcerated

each year. Safe and stable housing upon release is key to successful re-entry, yet most PLWH exiting prison

experience housing instability within the first year after release. Many face the additional challenges of

mental health and substance use disorders, economic hardship, and food insecurity, all of which profoundly

impact their ability to attain and sustain HIV viral suppression and stabilize health, housing, and wellbeing.

Homecoming will provide guidance for each sector regarding their role in creating tailored approaches and

feature examples of successful efforts that can be built on, along with practical tools to implement change.

Peer to Peer Discussion: Addressing the Intersection of HIV & Intimate Partner Violence

The peer discussion provides information on successful collaborations among providers in three U.S. communities that received funding through the VAWA-HOPWA Initiative, jointly funded by HUD and the Department of Justice (DOJ). It also includes a short description of the intersectionality challenges related to accessing housing and services for persons living with HIV who experience intimate partner violence.

The Invisible Class: The Story of Homelessness In America

The Invisible Class explores what it truly means to be homeless in America, challenging stereotypes and examining the systemic causes of mass homelessness in the wealthiest nation in the world. From coast to coast the film is a day in the life of homelessness across America.

Previously American documentary films on homelessness tend to focus on small subsections of people. While this is definitely an important aspect of contemporary homelessness, it's also only a sliver of the overall situation of an ongoing machine that creates and perpetuates mass homelessness and has for 40 years. Mass homelessness isn’t the failure of the system, it’s the system functioning as it was designed.

From Locked Up to Locked Out - 2005 Trailer

“From Locked Up to Locked Out” was designed to assist in the development of person-centered, trauma-informed, community-based solutions to the challenges inherent to welcoming, and successfully integrating, persons living with HIV/AIDS upon their release from incarceration in jails and prisons. The videos comprise on-site interviews with staff and persons with lived experience, both within and outside jailhouse walls across America. These very personal interviews offer a unique window into the realities and impacts of incarceration and re-entry.

Although the format and style may be dated, we believe that the knowledge and perspective offered are as applicable today as they were when first published in 2005.

Green Video Production

-When filming at large events, we help organizers facilitate a no food waste program.

-All batteries for the entirety of our equipment are reusable and rechargeable.

-We don’t use any paper in any of our processes or create any physical advertising materials.

-We maximize our use of natural lighting, use energy efficient bulbs, and turnoff electronics when not being used.

-We participate in OhmConnect & Ohm Hour when “dirty” power plants turn on to offset the load on the grid.

-We regulate our water usage and utilize reusable water bottles.

-We also donate old electronics, use green cleaning products, and use energy efficient transportation.

-We use canvas and other reusuable materials for all trashbags.
